Resin-bound driveways have become one of the most popular choices across Plymouth, Ivybridge and the South Hams for their modern look, low maintenance and long-term performance. Below are the answers to some of the most common questions our customers ask about resin-bound surfaces.
What is a resin-bound driveway?
Resin-bound driveways are made from natural stone aggregates mixed with a UV-stable resin. The mixture is hand-trowelled onto a prepared surface to create a smooth, seamless and permeable finish.
Is a resin-bound surface permeable?
Yes. Resin-bound systems are fully permeable, allowing rainwater to drain through the surface naturally. This makes them compliant with SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) regulations.
How long do resin-bound driveways last?
When installed over a strong base, resin-bound surfaces typically last 15–20 years. They’re UV-resistant, weed-resistant, and don’t fade or crack like other materials.
Can resin be installed over an existing driveway?
Yes—in many cases, resin can be installed as an overlay on sound tarmac or concrete surfaces. We’ll assess the condition of your existing base during our free survey.
What colours and styles are available?
There’s a wide choice of natural stone colours available—from light silver greys to warm golden tones and darker blends. We can also add contrasting block paving borders or curves for a bespoke finish.
Is it slippery when wet?
No—resin-bound surfaces are finished with a fine anti-slip aggregate, making them safe to walk and drive on in wet or icy conditions.
How do I clean and maintain a resin driveway?
Very little upkeep is required. A gentle brush and hose is usually all you need. Avoid pressure washing too close to the surface, and clear any debris or leaves regularly to prevent discolouration.
Can I use resin for patios and pathways too?
Absolutely. We can match your resin driveway with paths, entrance steps or patio areas in the same colour for a consistent, modern look around your property.
Does resin-bound surfacing crack?
No—resin is flexible and crack-resistant. However, the quality of the base underneath is critical. We always ensure the correct prepara
